Biografia

La mia vita è stata scandita dall’evoluzione visuale dei miei pensieri attraverso la fotografia. Ho iniziato a scattare da piccola in pellicola e, in principio, era puro reportage: tutto ciò che vedevo e non volevo perdere. Negli anni ’90 avevo sempre con me la macchina fotografica e scattavo per divertimento: le facce strane degli amici, i luoghi che visitavo, le esperienze che vivevo. Col digitale ho avuto, invece, la consapevolezza che tutto poteva diventare qualcosa che possedesse un valore. La libertà di non avere un numero limitato di scatti mi aiutava a vedere oltre la semplice immagine, mi aiutava a cercare la differenza, ma quella che ancora non vedevo era la mia personalità. Ho dovuto studiare, ho dovuto lottare contro me stessa per perdere quella rigidità fotografica, quell’imbarazzo fotografico che mi mostrava le mie immagini brutte e senza senso. La mia fotografia è cambiata, adesso è più rivolta a raccontare l’opportunità che uno scatto può contenere: cerco di dare un significato degno al significante che mostra il suo essere attraverso la scoperta dei diversi livelli di significazione che si pensa si nascondano in una semplice superficie visuale.

Nel 2010 ho frequentato il corso base di fotografia con approfondimento sullo Still Life con Santo Mongioì del Gruppo Fotografico Le Gru di Valverde. All’Etna Photo Meeting del 2010 ho seguito due workshop: Ritratto fotografico con Franco Ferro e Post Produzione con Antonio Manta; ed esposto alcune mie fotografie di Still Life alla mostra dei Corsisti.

Nel 2011 ho frequentato due corsi di approfondimento sul Ritratto Fotografico e sullo Still Life presso l’associazione culturale NOAF di Catania, partecipando con un mio scatto alla mostra di fine anno.

Nel 2015 sono tornata nel Gruppo Fotografico Le Gru di Valverde per restarci fino al 2018. Nel corso di quegli anni ho esposto un mio scatto alla mostra “Valle del Belice tra storia e memoria” (2015). Durante l’Etna Photo Meeting del 2018 ho seguito il workshop fotografico sul Ritratto di Antonella Cunsolo.

Nel 2020 sono approdata all’ACAF e fu subito COVID!

Mi sono Laureata in Scienze e lingue per la comunicazione a Catania nel 2022 presentando la tesi su un progetto da me realizzato intitolato “Personalità” analizzato secondo le tesi della Semiotica della fotografia e della Semiotica del visuale.

My life has been marked by the visual evolution of my thoughts through photography. I started shooting film as a child and, in the beginning, it was pure reportage: everything I saw and didn’t want to lose. In the 90s I always had my camera with me and I took photos for fun: the strange faces of friends, the places I visited, the experiences I had. With digital, however, I had the awareness that everything could become something that had value. The freedom of not having a limited number of shots helped me see beyond the simple image, it helped me look for the difference, but what I still didn’t see was my personality. I had to study, I had to fight against myself to lose that photographic rigidity, that photographic embarrassment that showed me my ugly and senseless images. My photography has changed, it is now more aimed at telling the opportunity that a shot can contain: I try to give a worthy meaning to the signifier that shows its being through the discovery of the different levels of meaning that are thought to be hidden in a simple visual surface.

In 2010 I attended the basic photography course with in-depth study on Still Life with Santo Mongioì of the Le Gru Photographic Group of Valverde. At the 2010 Etna Photo Meeting I followed two workshops: Photographic Portrait with Franco Ferro and Post Production with Antonio Manta; and exhibited some of my Still Life photographs at the students’ exhibition.

In 2011 I attended two in-depth courses on Photographic Portraits and Still Life at the NOAF cultural association in Catania, participating with one of my shots in the end-of-year exhibition.

In 2015 I returned to the Le Gru di Valverde Photographic Group to remain there until 2018. During those years I exhibited one of my shots at the exhibition “Valle del Belice tra storia e memoria” (2015). During the 2018 Etna Photo Meeting I followed the photographic workshop on the Portrait of Antonella Cunsolo.

In 2020 I arrived at ACAF and it was immediately COVID!

I graduated in Sciences and languages ​​for communication in Catania in 2022, presenting the thesis on a project I created entitled “Personality” analyzed according to the theses of the Semiotics of photography and the Semiotics of the visual.
